Gash Data Master Leak Forces Label to Mandate Pure Math Lessons

A leaked internal memo shows Angel Tapes forcing the band to learn Excel after releasing the gash data master single.

RE: Mandatory Excel training and the release of the new gash data master single.

We must address the new track from Eau Claire deconstructionists gash. The band recently dropped their single, gash data master, to critical acclaim. However, our board of directors is highly concerned. The song contains experimental electronic textures and woozy guitars. It does not contain actual actionable metadata. We signed this band under the impression they were certified database administrators.

The Pivot to Spreadsheets

"We expected a SQL query and we got a post-punk tapestry," said Barnaby Quill of Goldman Sachs. "The gash data master track contains zero pivot tables. This is a severe breach of our aesthetic brand. We cannot sell fuzzy guitar solos to the algorithmic overlords at Spotify. Our listeners demand raw, unformatted integer arrays. We need them to stop playing the drums and start indexing."

Effective immediately, all band members must attend daily math bootcamps. We have confiscated their guitar pedals. We replaced them with Texas Instruments graphing calculators. If the upcoming album at least you know what you're laughing at does not contain at least three usable financial spreadsheets, we will cancel the vinyl pressing. We cannot pay our light bills with indie rock credibility.

Deconstructing the Deconstructionists

Some staff members argue that the band is merely subverting the genre. We reject this. "They played the Eaux Claires festival and met Justin Vernon," said Agnes Periwinkle, Head of Audience Sedation at Live Nation. "But can they calculate quarterly amortization schedules? Absolutely not. This gash data master situation is a logistical nightmare for our accounting department. We tried to import the audio file into QuickBooks and it crashed the entire server."

Please note that the corporate retreat next week will focus on pivot table optimization. Do not bring your synthesizers. We will use the final mastering budget to buy premium Microsoft 365 licenses. Thank you for your compliance in making our roster as boring and profitable as possible.
