WASHINGTON—The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a nationwide product recall for the S&P 500 index today. The agency cited severe structural defects that cause sudden loss of wealth during earnings season. Regulators urged all American investors to immediately cease using market indices, tech equities, and stock index futures.

Hazard Description

According to official documents, the financial products contain a faulty optimism mechanism. This component causes stock index futures to rise sharply before abruptly plunging upon contact with reality. The defect affects an estimated 100 million portfolio units nationwide.

"Consumers face serious risks of sudden financial impact," said Arthur Pendelton, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Speculative Hazards. "Under normal conditions, financial assets should only line up nicely on a chart. These units fluctuate violently whenever corporate executives speak. That is a manufacturing defect."

Remedy And Instructions

The agency advises all retail traders to immediately uninstall their trading apps. Investors should return affected stock index futures to the nearest broker for a full refund in gold bullion. Affected brands include the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the Nasdaq Composite, and selected tech equities.

"We tracked the issue directly to the algorithm that calculates hope," said Lucinda Okonkwo-Bright, Director of Forward-Looking Regret at Meta. "Our engineers built the product assuming tech companies would make infinite money forever. Unfortunately, reality introduced a friction error into the system."

Incidents Reported

Regulators have received over 40,000 complaints regarding unexpected portfolio shrinkage. In several cases, consumers reported that their retirement plans collapsed while they were merely looking at market headlines on Yahoo Finance. No physical injuries occurred, though severe chest tightness was widely reported.

At press time, federal inspectors advised citizens to temporarily replace their stock index futures with mason jars full of nickel quarters buried in the backyard.
