MINNEAPOLIS— Local atmospheric black metal project Panopticon detailed its upcoming album, Det Hjemsøkte Hjertet, Monday. The project aims to bring listeners an unprecedented level of sonic nihilism. Panopticon, helmed by Austin Lunn, has consistently delivered bleak soundscapes. This new Panopticon release promises to be no different. Listeners can expect profound despair. The album’s first single, “The White Cedars,” is available now. It offers a taste of the existential void. Fans are already preparing their darkest hoodies.
A Symphony of Sadness
The record boasts a runtime of over 80 minutes. Lunn stated the album explores themes of isolation and the futility of existence. “We are but fleeting specks in a cold, uncaring universe,” Lunn explained. He is the sole member of Panopticon. “This album reflects that brutal truth.” He hopes the music will resonate with those feeling overwhelmed. The release is scheduled for November 15. Hjärta’s Heartbreak
Early reactions suggest the album is a triumph of melancholy. One fan, Brenda Gutterson, self-proclaimed “Chief Existential Officer of the Panopticon Fan Club,” shared her thoughts. “It’s so dark. I haven’t seen sunlight in days,” she said. “It’s perfect.” Another listener, perpetually gloomy artist Chadwick ‘Shadow’ Grimmsdale, praised the sonic textures. “The blast beats feel like impending doom,” Grimmsdale noted. “The tremolo picking is pure anguish.” Panopticon’s Det Hjemsøkte Hjertet will surely leave a mark.
