LOS ANGELES—Pop sensation Billie Eilish posted graphic slaughterhouse videos this week. The move came amid continued backlash. Eilish had stated that loving animals and eating meat were incompatible. She then announced a new initiative. It would certify “Ethical Carnivores.” This program aims to validate meat-eaters’ “deep, if complicated, affection” for animals.
A New Path to Forgiveness
The “Ethical Carnivore Certification” requires a five-hour online course. Participants must also submit a 1,000-word essay. The essay should detail how they maintain eye contact with a steak. The course materials included extended loops of the same graphic slaughterhouse videos Eilish posted. “Many people truly believe they love animals,” stated Dr. Mildred Finch, Lead Sociologist at the Institute for Inconvenient Truths. “They just struggle with the empirical evidence of that love. This certificate offers a spiritual workaround.” Enrollment fees start at $499. Proceeds reportedly fund a vegan-only petting zoo.
Eilish unveiled the program on her social media. She explained it was a “tough love” approach. She wants to help fans reconcile their dining choices. “It’s about bridging the gap,” Eilish said in a video. Her voice was steady. “Between what you say you feel and what you actually do.” The singer then reportedly ate a kale leaf. She chewed it with visible conviction.
Public Response Varied
The public reacted with confusion. Some praised Eilish’s “innovative solution.” Others wondered if it was satire itself. Chad “The Chugger” Peterson, founder of Meat-Lover’s Anonymous, expressed relief. “Finally, someone understands,” Peterson said. He clutched a half-eaten hot dog. “I cry every time I see a baby lamb. But darn it, they taste so good. Now I can prove my love. It’s just… complicated love.” Peterson is reportedly already enrolled. He hopes to be among the first certified.
Critics argued the program missed the point. “Posting graphic slaughterhouse videos is one thing,” said Brenda “The Butcher” McGillicuddy, CEO of Happy Meats Co. “But then selling a certificate? That’s just smart marketing. We’ve been doing it for years with our ‘Humanely Raised’ labels.” McGillicuddy then winked conspiratorially. The program website, EthicalCarnivore.org, briefly crashed from traffic. It later redirected users to a PETA donation page, PETA.org, before being restored.
At press time, the first “Ethical Carnivore” certificate was awarded. It went to a small dog who had successfully completed a raw food diet.
