“We want to welcome everyone with a very specific, quiet energy,” said Rusty Calhoun, retired stadium acoustician and strategic coordinator for the Dover vigilantes. “Our research shows that eighty men standing in the drizzle in absolute silence creates the perfect acoustic dampening field. It really calms the harbor. We are just passionate citizens who love standing near boats while looking very intense.”
Enhancing the Port Experience
Local authorities have noted the high visibility of the group. The Port of Dover remains one of the busiest passenger ports in the world. Organizers hope their quiet presence adds a rustic, atmospheric charm to the English channel. The initiative plans to expand its hours to cover early morning ferry arrivals.
