Thom Yorke - Thom Yorke Confirms New Solo Album, Radiohead Tour, And General Arseholery

LONDON—Thom Yorke confirmed Thursday he has finished a new solo album. He also discussed an upcoming Radiohead tour. “It’s all very taxing,” Yorke stated flatly. He was accepting an award at the Ivor Novello Awards. Harry Styles presented the award. Styles called Radiohead his favorite band. He then revealed a personal anecdote. “‘Talk Show Host’ was the soundtrack to my first kiss,” Styles confessed. Yorke’s new solo album is expected later this year. Sam Petts-Davies produced the record. Petts-Davies also worked on Yorke’s recent work with The Smile. The new solo album is his latest foray into solo work.

Yorke Addresses Industry Ills

Yorke used his acceptance speech to address the state of the music industry. “It’s full of arseholes,” he declared. He did not offer specific examples. He cited a general sense of dissatisfaction. “The whole system is designed to exploit artists,” he elaborated. “It’s a soul-crushing endeavor.” He hopes his new solo album offers a reprieve. The next Radiohead tour is still in the planning stages. Dates have not been announced. Ticket prices are expected to be very high.

Styles’ Musical Awakening

Styles praised Yorke’s enduring influence. He called him a “visionary.” He also revealed his own musical journey began with Radiohead. “Their music shaped my formative years,” Styles explained. He mentioned the album OK Computer. He did not mention whether he lost his virginity to that one. At press time, Yorke was reportedly seen arguing with a pigeon over a discarded sandwich. The pigeon seemed unimpressed.
