IRVINE, Calif.—Pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo nearly wore a piece of indie-rock history to her new Daisy Chain Fields festival. However, she ultimately benched the famous Olivia Rodrigo Elephant dress due to extreme heat. The twenty-year-old singer purchased the iconic red-and-white gown, originally worn by Meg White on The White Stripes' 2003 masterpiece, at a private auction for twenty-five thousand dollars.
1. The Felt Fabric Was Too Heavy
The historical garment consists of heavy, vintage felted wool. Rodrigo originally planned to open her headlining set in the outfit. She changed her mind after checking the local Irvine weather forecast.
2. A Twenty-Five Thousand Dollar Sweat Hazard
"The vintage wool smelled like 2003 detroit garage rock immediately," said Dr. Helene Vasquez-Thorne, Lead Researcher at the Center for Studies That Confirm What You Already Suspected. "Wearing the Olivia Rodrigo Elephant dress in ninety-degree heat would have caused instant dehydration."
3. The White Stripes Vibe Did Not Match the Sun
The classic White Stripes aesthetic relies heavily on pale, indoor energy. Rodrigo realized that sweating through a museum piece on a dusty polo field would ruin the indie-rock relic forever.
4. Live Nation Stage Managers Panicked
"We had medical staff on standby just for the dress," said Agnes Periwinkle, Head of Audience Sedation at Live Nation. "We almost deployed our industrial cooling fans usually reserved for aging classic rock bands."
5. The Replacement Outfit Cost Twelve Dollars
After abandoning the heavy Olivia Rodrigo Elephant dress, the singer performed her hit "Drivers License" in a breathable mesh tank top. At press time, Jack White reportedly offered to buy the sweat-free dress back for thirty-thousand dollars in store credit at Third Man Records.
