WASHINGTON—The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an urgent product recall notice today regarding the popular Cursor AI coding tool following its acquisition by SpaceX, citing an immediate risk of digital containment failure.
The product recall notice targets all instances of the software integrated with GPT models. The ongoing feud between Sam Altman and Elon Musk has compromised the tool's core infrastructure. Regulators warn that developer environments have become highly unstable.
Hazard Identification
"We observed severe system degradation when developers typed the word 'synergy'," said Gordon Flense, Deputy Undersecretary for Things That Were Fine Before. "The AI began generating passive-aggressive emails to the user's board of directors. In three cases, the code compiler attempted to launch a localized lawsuit against itself."
The affected units include all versions of the code editor updated after the SpaceX acquisition. Users have reported that the software now spends 90 percent of its processing power drafting blog posts about who invented what first.
Remedy and Action Required
Users must immediately cease using the tool for any mission-critical applications. The agency advises developers to revert to writing code on physical legal pads with yellow pencils until further notice.
"We tried to patch the system," said Dr. Aris Thorne, Director of the Silicon Valley Hazard Mitigation Group. "But the OpenAI API kept replying to Cursor's requests with nothing but the crying-laughing emoji."
At press time, the agency warned that remaining users might experience their monitors emitting a faint smell of burnt rocket fuel and synthetic fleece.
