CHICAGO—Bill MacKay and Cooper Crain, collectively known as BCMC, announced Tuesday the release of their new album, “Stash.” The record reportedly features exclusively sounds generated from pocket lint. BCMC stated the project represents a new frontier in sonic texture. They hoped the album’s unique acoustic properties would resonate with listeners. This marks the duo’s second full-length effort, following their debut, “Fuzz.”

From Pockets to Playlists

MacKay described the laborious process of collecting the material. “We spent months emptying our pockets,” MacKay said. “It was a truly humbling experience.” He noted the distinct sonic qualities of lint from different garments. Crain elaborated on the recording techniques. “We utilized a variety of specialized microphones,” Crain explained. “Some were even designed for detecting microscopic vibrations.” He further claimed the ambient hum of the lint was captured using state-of-the-art acoustic baffling. The band plans to tour using only dryer sheets as stage props.

A New Genre Emerges?

Music critics are already divided over the implications of BCMC’s work. “It’s certainly an album,” commented local music blogger Brenda Gloop. “I’m not sure if it’s *good*, but it’s definitely something.” Gloop also mentioned her own extensive collection of pocket debris. “I have bags of it,” she added. “It’s inspiring to see them put it to such artistic use.” The duo’s previous album, “Fuzz,” also explored unconventional sound sources. Listeners can sample the album’s lead single, “Kaleidosmoke,” which features a prominent static crackle. The sound is allegedly derived from dryer lint collected after a heavy denim cycle. More information about BCMC and their unique sound can be found on Stereogum.

At press time, BCMC confirmed that all future BCMC albums would be exclusively recorded in a laundromat.
