LOS ANGELES—The Los Angeles Philharmonic today announced the successful, deafening conclusion of the Gustavo Dudamel farewell tour, featuring a historic collaboration with rock icons Foo Fighters. The performance at the Hollywood Bowl combined ninety classical musicians with Dave Grohl screaming at the top of his lungs. The historic event proved that delicate woodwinds cannot compete with three triple-rectifier guitar amps.
A Symphony of Feedback
The landmark concert marked the final local performance of the beloved conductor before he departs for the New York Philharmonic. Fans experienced a unique program. The orchestra began with Stravinsky. Then, the Foo Fighters appeared to play 'Best of You' at 115 decibels. The Foo Fighters catalog received a symphonic lift that critics called 'remarkably loud' and 'deeply confusing for the elderly subscribers in the front boxes.'
"We wanted to honor Maestro Dudamel with a sophisticated send-off," said Rusty Calhoun, retired stadium acoustician and founder of Dads Against Bass. "We achieved this by putting a microphone inside Dave Grohl’s mouth. The violins tried their best. However, they lacked the raw horsepower of Taylor Hawkins’ archival drum tracks. It was a beautiful, concussive evening of high art."
An Emotional Departure
The night also featured a 100-person choir. They attempted to sing the harmony to 'My Hero' over the sound of pyrotechnics. Dudamel conducted with his signature energy. He broke three batons trying to compete with the snare drum. The crowd cheered. The brass section eventually gave up and ordered tacos.
