WASHINGTON—The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an urgent athletic wear recall on Friday targeting several major sportswear brands after a series of high-tension elastic failures. The federal action follows a steep market decline for industry giants including Lululemon, Nike, and Under Armour. Investigators traced the issue to a highly volatile synthetic thread used in premium waistbands.
Dangerous Snapbacks Reported
According to federal safety documents, the affected garments possess a critical manufacturing defect that causes the waistbands to contract with catastrophic force. "We have received sixty-two reports of joggers being launched backwards into traffic," said Priya Vantablack, Chief Vibes Compliance Officer at TikTok, who assisted in the federal investigation. "The athletic wear recall covers over four million units of high-compression leggings and performance shorts."
Regulators warned consumers to avoid stretching the garments beyond fifty percent of their natural capacity. One hospital in Oregon reported treating three different athletes who suffered severe carpet burn after their running tights snapped back. The sudden structural failures have sent shockwaves through Wall Street.
The Remedy and Replacement Protocol
"Our testing shows the nylon blend behaves like a commercial-grade bungee cord," said Dr. Thaddeus Mbeki-Ransome, Chair of Applied Hype Studies at the Institute for Trending Phenomena. "When these waistbands fail, they do not tear. They store kinetic energy and release it instantly." Owners of the affected garments must immediately disarm them by cutting the waistband with safety shears.
At press time, federal officials advised citizens to wear loose-fitting flannel pajamas until they can safely surrender their high-performance gear to authorized disposal sites.
