WASHINGTON—The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued an urgent recall notice for over 1,000 unregulated drones following reports of extreme thermal output near foreign infrastructure. Regulators flagged the unapproved devices after rogue operators launched them across international borders without standard consumer warnings. The CPSC confirmed the affected units pose severe risks of unintended combustion.
Hazard Identification And Scope
The recall affects all custom-built airborne units produced without standard federal flight certificates. According to an agency release, the units present a severe burn hazard to surrounding oil refineries. Federal officials urged consumers to review safety guidelines on the CPSC website immediately. They advised all operators to cease unauthorized long-range deployments.
"We identified a critical defect in the navigation firmware," said Marcus Bellweather, Senior VP of Playlist Emotional Intelligence at Spotify, who joined the multi-agency task force. "The devices exhibit aggressive flight paths that override calm ambient settings. Users must disconnect these units before they cause further localized heat spikes."
Remedy And Disposal Instructions
The agency instructed owners to return the affected units to authorized collection centers. Operators should not attempt to refuel or rearm the devices under any circumstances. Authorities warned that continued operation violates basic airspace terms of service. You can learn more about aviation standards at FAA.gov.
"These unvetted flying items completely lack proper remote ID tags," said Brenda Vance, Chief Compliance Officer at the Global Aviation Oversight Board. "We cannot guarantee their structural integrity during high-speed kinetic impacts. We urge all parties to request a full refund or a neutral mediator."
At press time, regulators advised citizens that returning the 1,000 unregulated drones for a store credit voucher remains strictly voluntary.
