TORONTO— Executives handed out Billboard Canada awards for the year 2026 during a hurried ceremony on Tuesday afternoon. Organizers rushed the timeline to beat severe winter weather. R&B singer Summer Walker and pop star Bebe Rexha received top honors two years ahead of schedule.
Predictive Trophies
The rushed timeline forced organizers to guess the next two years of Canadian radio trends. Host committee members evaluated nominees based on theoretical streaming data. They calculated potential chart performance using complex astrological charts and weather patterns.
"We could not risk holding these Billboard Canada awards in actual 2026," said Marcus Bellweather, Senior VP of Playlist Emotional Intelligence at Spotify. "The Canadian winter will be very bad that year. We decided to give Bebe Rexha her trophy right now. She promised to release a matching hit single by November 2025."
Rival Canadian Music Projects
The early ceremony created total chaos across the local recording industry. Drake reportedly financed a brand-new album for a rival Canadian rapper just to qualify for the theoretical 2026 categories. Meanwhile, pop star Tate McRae lost an early award after judges criticized a Victoria's Secret performance that has not happened yet.
"Our predictive algorithms showed severe stage fatigue for 2026," explained Agnes Periwinkle, Head of Audience Sedation at Live Nation. "We had to penalize the artist in advance. It saves everyone a lot of time later."
At press time, organizers were already handing out Billboard Canada awards for 2031 to a group of confused toddlers in Vancouver.
