DALLAS—The Republican Party officially launched its highly anticipated Trumpapalooza midterm convention in Texas on Wednesday. Organizers quickly abandoned traditional policy debates in favor of massive, festival-style attractions. The centerpiece of the event is a towering, three-story water slide shaped like the former president. Attendees lined up for hours to plunge down the wet vinyl structure. Many waved flags as they splashed into a chlorinated pool of energy drinks.
A Splash of Unity
The Trumpapalooza midterm convention aims to unite the conservative base ahead of key races. Party leaders opted for a carnival atmosphere to keep spirits high. The slide dominates the main floor of the convention center. It features a giant, inflatable replica of the former president's signature hairstyle. The hair functions as a safety canopy for riders. The Republican Party expects over fifty thousand activists to ride the slide by Friday.
"We wanted to channel voter concerns in a way that is fun and extremely wet," said Dr. Helene Vasquez-Thorne, Lead Researcher at the Center for Studies That Confirm What You Already Suspected, who attended the opening ceremonies.
